Got a cell phone!

I got a shiny new cell phone yesterday! It’s a Samsung A670. Pics:

My number is pretty interesting, although PhoneSpell doesn’t have any mnemonics for it.

Now see if you can guess the number. Here are some clues:

  • It is in the form: (408) xyx-zxjk, where each unique letter represents a unique digit in the number.
  • z minus one is prime. (mod 10)
  • x is equal to y raised to the number of times x occurs in the phone number. (mod 10)
  • z is one more than y. (mod 10)
  • j is one more than x. (mod 10)
  • k is one more than j. (mod 10)
  • The cube root of x is even. (mod 10)

  1. ive been working on this for like 20 min. and still can’t find one answer because 2 is the only cube root that is even (that means x is 8). And x is equal to y raised to the number of times x occurs in the phone number, therefore x=y^3, meaning that y is 8^3 which is definetly not a digit at all. im not sure if this is right but ive doing it a few times and it seems to be.

  2. @dylan: x is equal to y raised to the number of times x occurs in the phone number. (mod 10) That means: x=y^(number of times x occurs) (mod 10).

    You said that “y=8^3″, and that would be y=x^3. Not the case–tricky! ;-)

  3. @dylan: It makes perfect sense. Remember, it’s (mod 10) so 10 would become 0. Therefore, … YOU GOT IT! 828-3890. Or, 82-83-89-0. X-P
